The website is intended to save New York aficionados del baile flamenco hours of web searching through mostly outdated webpages to find out where a live flamenco dance or music performance can be found in the coming weeks in NYC. The Performance page is a directory of live flamenco performances in New York City and the surrounding area, including northern New Jersey, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan. It lists theaters, Spanish restaurants, tapas bars and flamenco tablaos that host live performances of flamenco dance and music, along with performance dates, times and the artists performing. Every January, the homepage will list the dancers, guitarists and cantaores who will be performing in the NY Flamenco Festival, (held annually in February) and will list performance venues and schedule. The Artists page lists many New York area Flamenco performers and provides links to their websites where available. The page is divided into four sections (dancers, guitarists, singers & dance companies) and the page sides are decorated with photos of many of them performing el arte flamenco. The Flamenco page features the wikipedia entry on Flamenco, although some may find the history and origins debatable, the entry provides some good "in a nutshell" background and gives explanations of Cante Jondo & Cante Chico and classifies many of the Flamenco palos including: bulerias, alegrias, solea, seguiriyas, tangos, tanguillos, tientos, fandangos, rumbas, guajiras, sevillanas, caracoles, rumba, tarantas, peteneras & cantiñas (to name a few!). The page is illustrated with details of, and studies for, "El Jaleo" a superb 1880 oil painting by the American artist John Singer Sargent. These images say everything there is to say about Flamenco. The Compás page has graphic charts that help explain the Compas or Rhythm patterns that provide the basic structure of the 12 count palos (soleares, bulerias, seguirillas etc...) and provides a download link to a truly impressive scientific analysis of Flamenco rhythm. The Links page provides access to a number of recommended flamenco websites and some of the larger commercial sites.
